Keeper Akpan set to join Heartland

Follow the mass exodus of players from relegated Bayelsa United during the week, number one goalkeeper of the side, Bassey Akpan, is expected to officially join the Naze Millionaires on Monday.
SuperSport.com was informed late Friday night that the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper will arrive in Owerri on Sunday and will join up with his new teammates on Monday in training to start preparation for the new season.
The arrival of Akpan could further push goalkeeper Austin Brown down the pecking order of first-choices in spite of his immense talent.
Brown has caught the ire of Heartland head coach, Samson Siasia, after he was alleged to have feigned injury in order to stay away from an important game in this year’s CAF Champions League.
But 26-year-old Akpan faces competition from another former youth international custodian, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
Already, defender Chibuzor Okonkwo, another Bayelsa United teammate of Akpan, has been signed on by Heartland from Bayelsa United for the coming season.
